The Catalan government has approved the replacement of username and password access to its digital health portal La Meva Salut with the idCAT Mòbil identification system. The change, confirmed by the Department of Health, will be implemented gradually over the remainder of 2026 and aims to improve both security and user access to personal health services.
La Meva Salut is the personal digital health space used by over 3.4 million people in Catalonia to view medical records, contact healthcare professionals, and complete health-related procedures. Under the new system, users will no longer need to remember passwords. Instead, they will log in using their identity document and a registered mobile number, receiving a one-time SMS code to verify access.
idCAT Mòbil is a free, permanent digital identification tool available to anyone over 16. It requires no app installation and can be used across devices. The system is already accepted for most digital dealings with Catalan public administrations.
How to Register for idCAT Mòbil
Registration can be completed online or in person. Online options include verification using a DNI or TIE (foreign identity document) and health card, via selfie or video identification, or through a recognised digital certificate. An online assistant guides users through the process based on their eligibility.
Alternatively, registration is available in person at Citizen Information Offices (OAC) of the Generalitat. Applicants must present their identity document and provide a mobile number to link to the service.
Enhanced Security and Seamless Access
Once registered, users enter their ID number and mobile number when accessing La Meva Salut. A one-time code is sent by SMS to complete authentication. The system supports cross-device use, users can start a process on a computer and confirm it via mobile.
For higher-security procedures, idCAT Mòbil+ offers stronger authentication without requiring additional software or certificates.
The main change users will see is the activation of two-factor authentication for accessing La Meva Salut, reinforcing the protection of sensitive health data.
The Department of Health is rolling out the changes to strengthen digital security and align health services with Catalonia’s broader digital identification framework. Information and support resources will be provided throughout the transition to assist users.
