Catalonia’s information and communication technology sector generated €30.601 billion in revenue in 2025, up 13% on the previous year, according to the 2026 Technology Sector Barometer in Catalonia by Cercle Tecnològic, with support from the Generalitat and Barcelona City Council.

For local businesses, employers and workers, the figures point to a sector that is taking a larger share of the economy while still struggling to find staff. The barometer says ICT represented 9.1% of Catalonia’s gross domestic product, meaning total economic output, in 2025, half a percentage point higher than in 2024.

“When we compare ourselves with other European countries, we are above the average and very close to benchmark countries in technology such as Germany,” Cercle Tecnològic president Joan Ramon Barrera said during the presentation on Monday, according to reporting based on the barometer.

Ten-year growth outpaces the wider economy

The barometer says the sector has nearly doubled its gross value added over the past decade, rising from €5.624 billion in 2015 to €11.112 billion in 2025. Gross value added is a measure of the value created by the sector after subtracting input costs.

According to the report, that represents annual growth of 7%, around three times the pace of the wider Catalan economy over the same period.

The same sources say growth in 2025 was driven mainly by technological innovation, cited by 67% of firms, changes in demand, cited by 51.1%, and the addition of new talent, cited by 48.7%.

  • 2025 ICT revenue: €30.601 billion
  • Year-on-year increase: 13%
  • Share of Catalonia’s GDP: 9.1%
  • Gross value added in 2025: €11.112 billion

High productivity, but vacancies remain open

The barometer estimates ICT productivity at about €85,200 per worker each year, above the Catalan economy-wide average of €66,500.

At the same time, staffing remains a practical problem for employers. Reporting based on the barometer says Catalan ICT companies had 1,690 vacancies unfilled despite the sector’s expansion, a constraint that can delay projects and make it harder for local firms to scale services or take on new contracts.

Separate reporting on the same barometer said more than 1,000 companies were consulted for the study, and 76% expect to increase turnover in 2026, while 2.1% foresee a downturn.

Readers who want to review the figures can consult the Cercle Tecnològic barometer page, where the organisation has published material from the 2025 report and its 2026 presentation.
