The Barcelona City Council has launched a solar pergola equipped with 80 photovoltaic panels in the Parc de les Tretze Roses, located in the La Marina del Prat Vermell neighbourhood within the Sants-Montjuïc district. The structure, which began operating on 16 August 2026, has a capacity of 31.6 kWp and is expected to produce approximately 31,600 kWh annually.

The energy generated will be distributed among several nearby municipal buildings through a grid-connected shared self-consumption system. According to the city council’s press office, the power will supply the El Polvorí Neighborhood Center, the El Polvorí Senior Citizens' Center, and the La Vinya Neighborhood Center.

The installation marks a new step in the sustainable transformation of this expanding urban area.

Renewable Energy and Public Space Combined

The pergola, constructed at the junction of Cal Cisó and Conesa streets, was developed by the Municipal Urban Planning Institute at a cost of around €400,000. In addition to its energy function, it provides shaded seating for residents, addressing the lack of tree cover in the area, a factor that also enhances solar exposure and efficiency.

The project forms part of the wider redevelopment of La Marina del Prat Vermell, where hundreds of subsidised housing units have recently been completed. The park itself now includes nearly 4,370 square metres of new green space within a redeveloped urban area spanning almost 21,000 square metres.

This integration of renewable infrastructure into public spaces reflects Barcelona’s policy of embedding sustainable energy systems into urban planning. The initiative aligns with municipal guidelines promoting clean energy use in new developments.
