Barcelona’s Trambesòs network is set for major disruption from 3 July, as the city starts track doubling and wider redevelopment works around Gran Via and Sant Martí. Lines T4, T5 and T6 will be affected, with the changes expected to run until spring 2027 and impact 2.7 million journeys, according to betevé.

From 3 July to 13 September, T4 will be partly closed between Verdaguer and El Maresme. Over the same period, T5 and T6 will not run between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Sant Martí de Provençals. The Ajuntament de Barcelona and ATM recommend Metro Line 4 as an alternative. You can also follow updates on our Community and Sport pages when city travel changes affect local events and routines.

Two special bus services will cover part of the tram route. One will replace T5 and T6, stopping at Marina on Avinguda Meridiana, but it will not extend to Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica. On 14 September, full T4 service is due to return, while T5 and T6 will recover the section between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Glòries, but stay closed between Glòries and Sant Martí de Provençals.

From 30 September until 2027, the closure will narrow to the Glòries and Can Jaumandreu stops. That phase will allow a second track to be built along Gran Via, between Ciutat de Granada street and Rambla del Poblenou, and will extend the tram route to Glòries via Diagonal, in line with T4. The city will also redevelop the sea-facing side of Gran Via, from Badajoz street to Rambla del Poblenou, with a 21-metre central promenade, 3.5-metre side lanes for bicycles and service vehicles, and a shared public transport platform for buses and trams, the first of its kind in Spain.

The works will also change a short stretch of Badajoz street, between Diagonal and Avinguda Meridiana. From September, one uphill car lane will be removed to make space for a bidirectional cycle lane, leaving three uphill lanes, one downhill bus lane and the new cycle lane. The section will be completed at the same time as the Gran Via redevelopment.

Traffic and pedestrian routes will also change during the summer. Diagonal will be closed city-centre bound from Tànger street, with vehicles diverted via Tànger. Residents and services will still be able to access up to the Llacuna street junction. Bus lines 7, H12, V25, N2 and N7 will also use the diversion, and the cycle lane on Diagonal between Ciutat de Granada and Glòries will be closed.

These projects are aimed at reorganising public transport around Glòries and improving pedestrian links between Glòries, Diagonal and Gran Via. Sant Martí, home to more than 240,000 residents, will see some of the biggest changes as Barcelona reshapes this part of the city.
