Joint Response to Weekend Violence
On Thursday 29th October 2026, the Barcelona Local Security Council held an extraordinary meeting chaired by Mayor Jaume Collboni, Minister of Interior and Public Security Núria Parlón, Spanish Government delegate José Crespín, and President of the Barcelona Court of First Instance Cristina Ferrando. The meeting brought together representatives from all public administrations, police forces, and judicial authorities in response to growing concerns over possible repeat incidents of looting and pillaging on Saturday 31st October.
Unified Commitment to Public Order
All participating institutions reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining public coexistence and order. The Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona, Mossos d’Esquadra (regional police), Policia Nacional, and Guardia Civil were present, alongside members of the judiciary and the Public Prosecutor's Office. Authorities stressed the need for firm police and judicial action should any violent acts occur, describing the situation as an unprecedented challenge due to the role of social media in mobilising minors.
We will act with maximum firmness and zero tolerance for violence in public spaces.
The Council underscored that legal guardians of minors involved in such acts will be held accountable, appealing to parental responsibility in preventing youth participation in disruptive behaviour.
Preventive Measures and Public Reassurance
Officials outlined a comprehensive deployment plan involving continuous monitoring, preventive policing, and real-time coordination between forces. The aim is to deter violence and ensure rapid response if incidents occur. Citizens were reassured that every effort is being made to protect democratic principles and public safety. Families were urged to remain vigilant and responsible, particularly given that social media calls are targeting young people for Saturday's events.
