Barcelona will host a public education protest on Sunday, with unions and parent associations calling for more investment and reform across Catalonia’s school system. The march starts at 11:30 in Jardinets de Gràcia and finishes at Plaça Catalunya.
The action is backed by USTEC, CGT, Intersindical, CNT and COS, along with Affac, the group that represents public school parent-teacher associations. Organisers are urging people to turn out in large numbers in support of public education.
The protest focuses on funding levels and wider structural issues in the education system. The groups behind it say public schools need more resources to meet current needs, including better staffing and improved facilities.
These demands are not new. Unions and parent groups have raised similar concerns for years, and Sunday’s march is intended to put pressure on the Generalitat de Catalunya to respond with policy changes and higher education budgets.
