Barcelona residents heading to La Boqueria are being advised to go between 9am and 11am, when the market is quieter and easier to shop in. Jordi Mas, president of the market vendors, says that morning window gives locals a better experience before the busiest tourist hours begin.

Officially known as Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, the market is one of Barcelona’s best-known landmarks. It is said to attract about 25 million visitors a year, and Mas’s advice is aimed at making everyday shopping easier for city residents.

Mas said, “We advise residents to enjoy La Boqueria at the best time: from 9:00 to 11:00.” The aim is simple, fewer crowds and a more comfortable way to buy fresh produce and other goods.

La Boqueria sits just off La Rambla and has long been part of Barcelona’s food and community life. Its popularity brings benefits, but it can also make day-to-day shopping harder for locals when the market is at its busiest.

The advice reflects the wider balance between tourism and local use at one of the city’s most visited markets. For more on how this affects neighbourhood life, see our coverage of community in Barcelona and sport across the city.
