Following a fatal collision between two high-speed trains near Urda (Toledo) on Friday 30th October 2026, the Madrid Blood Transfusion Centre has issued an urgent appeal for blood donations, particularly for groups 0+, O-, A+, A- and B-, as reported by Barcelonasecreta.

Although the incident occurred in central Spain, residents across Catalonia are encouraged to contribute. Donations in Barcelona and the metropolitan area remain vital, with all blood groups needed despite specific demand.

Where to Donate in Barcelona

  • Banc de Sang i Teixits (Dr. Frederic Duran i Jordà Building, Passeig del Taulat, 116, 22@): open Monday to Friday 8:00–20:00, Saturdays 9:00–14:00 and 16:00–20:00.
  • Hospital Clínic (Carrer de Villarroel, 170): Monday to Saturday, 8:00–20:00.
  • Other major hospitals including Vall d’Hebron, Sant Pau and Hospital del Mar also accept donations during extended morning and afternoon hours.

For those outside central Barcelona, hospitals such as Bellvitge (L’Hospitalet), Germans Trias i Pujol (Badalona), Mútua de Terrassa and Parc Taulí (Sabadell) continue regular collection. Eligibility and Tips

Donors must be aged 18–65, weigh over 50kg and in good health. Bring official ID. Unlike medical blood tests, donors should not fast, eat and stay hydrated beforehand. Recent tattoos, travel outside Europe, or certain medications may require on-site assessment.
