Council Acts on Resident Complaints
For several weeks, a Rodalies commuter train has remained stationary on the tracks between Marina and Colón streets in Badalona, adjacent to the old Mobba factory site, generating persistent noise that residents say is severely disrupting their rest and quality of life. The Badalona City Council, led by Mayor Xavier Garcia Albiol, has formally escalated complaints to Rodalies de Catalunya following numerous reports from local residents. The fourth deputy mayor, Sònia Egea, sent a letter to Òscar Playà, general director of Rodalies de Catalunya, demanding action to end the disturbance.
Call for Relocation or Cessation of Tests
According to the council, Adif (Administrator of Railway Infrastructures) confirmed the train is stationed there to conduct technical tests. In her letter, Egea urged Rodalies to either halt the tests at this location or relocate them to a site where they do not affect residential areas.
Any technical tests that need to be carried out in Badalona must be compatible with residents' right to rest.
Egea also requested an official acoustic study to measure the noise levels produced by the train and verify compliance with current noise pollution regulations. The council stressed that any infrastructure activity must respect the well-being of local residents, particularly during nighttime hours.
Push for Swift Resolution
"From the City Council, we demand a solution from Rodalies as soon as possible," Egea concluded. The municipality expressed confidence that the request would be handled promptly and reaffirmed its willingness to coordinate with relevant authorities to secure a resolution. Residents affected by the noise are advised to monitor updates via the Badalona City Council website for further developments and potential mitigation measures.
