The Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC), a pro-independence civic organisation, has called a protest outside the Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia’s regional police, station at Travessera de les Corts 319–321 at 20:00 on Tuesday 15 September.

Residents and people travelling through the Les Corts area who plan to be near the station on Tuesday evening should be aware that a demonstration is scheduled outside the building. The ANC is calling the action under the slogan: “Enough police impunity: Parlon, resign.”

“The repression against young people in our country, many of them minors, cannot go unpunished,” the ANC says in its public call.

The organisation is demanding the resignation of Núria Parlon, the Catalan Minister of the Interior and Public Security, who is responsible for the regional police department.

Two gatherings scheduled on Tuesday evening

The ANC says participants will arrive from a separate fortnightly gathering outside the Spanish National Police station on Via Laietana in central Barcelona. That event is organised by the Dignity Commission, which campaigns over repression and torture of pro-independence activists.

  • 19:00: gathering outside Via Laietana 43, Barcelona.
  • 20:00: ANC protest outside the Mossos d'Esquadra station, Travessera de les Corts 319–321.

The Dignity Commission has announced that Guillem Lorenzo will speak at the Via Laietana gathering, alongside Josep Maria Seguí of the Old Town Neighbourhood Association.

“Memory is reparation and truth, not empty symbolic gestures,” the Dignity Commission says.

Police leadership changes take effect on the same day

Tuesday is also the date when Ferran López Navarro is due to take office as director general of the Police, the senior civilian management post for the Mossos d'Esquadra, replacing Josep Lluís Trapero. RTVE Catalunya reported on 9 September that Sílvia Catà Culubret has been appointed the force’s new chief commissioner.

People intending to attend can join the ANC protest at 20:00 outside Travessera de les Corts 319–321, or the earlier Via Laietana gathering at 19:00 outside number 43.
