Diputació de Barcelona, the provincial council, has approved a €15 million programme to fund improvements to local cultural facilities across Barcelona province in 2026 and 2027. The scheme is open to 310 municipal councils, excluding Barcelona city, and four decentralised municipal entities.

For residents who use municipal libraries, theatres, cultural centres and museums, the programme provides a funding route for councils to carry out eligible renovation work between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 2027.

Funding limits and eligible cultural spaces

Under the Sectoral Programme for the Renovation and Improvement of Local Cultural Facilities, the €15 million budget is split equally between 2026 and 2027.

Each council or decentralised municipal entity may submit one application covering up to four facilities and up to five actions at each site. The maximum contribution is €400,000 per municipality.

  • Municipal archives and public libraries, including reading spaces linked to the Bibliobús mobile-library service.
  • Theatres, auditoriums, multi-purpose halls, cultural centres, ateneus and houses of culture.
  • Museums, archaeological and palaeontological sites, heritage interpretation centres and artistic-creation spaces.

Application deadline and council contacts

Diputació de Barcelona said applications could be submitted from publication in the BOPB, Barcelona province’s official gazette, until 27 February 2026. The provincial council’s December 2025 notice states that the programme also covers libraries in the Xarxa de Biblioteques Municipals, the municipal library network.

Municipal staff with questions about applications can contact the Provincial Council’s Territorial Programming and Facilities Section at [email protected]. Technical questions on library architecture and furniture can be sent to [email protected], while queries on RFID, audiovisual equipment and graphic elements go to [email protected].
