Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB) and the Sarrià-Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona City Council are hosting a series of events to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Tramvia Blau, as reported by Laciutat. Originally scheduled for late October, the festivities were postponed out of respect for victims of the Toledo rail accident.

The main event is a public chocolate gathering on Saturday 7th November, from 11:00 to 20:00, with the historic unit 5 on display along Avinguda del Tibidabo between Passeig de Sant Gervasi and Carrer de García-Mariño. The tram will remain accessible on Sunday 8th November from 10:00 to 20:00 for free visits.

Workshop Open Days and Commemorative Ticket

The Tramvia Blau workshops will open to the public on 14th and 15th November, offering insight into the maintenance and operation of the heritage service. TMB has also issued a special commemorative ticket to mark the occasion.

Exhibition at Espai Mercè Sala

Throughout November, Espai Mercè Sala hosts an exhibition tracing the tram’s history, its role in developing Tibidabo, and its status as a cultural symbol. The Tramvia Blau, inaugurated on 29th October 1901, is the last surviving tram line from Barcelona’s original network.

In May 2023, the Generalitat de Catalunya granted 30 historic rail vehicles, including several Tramvia Blau units, the status of Bé Cultural d’Interès Nacional (Asset of National Cultural Interest), ensuring their preservation.
