Barcelona is now one of the first places in Catalunya to get Telefónica’s new commercial edge computing services, with nodes also live in Terrassa. The company said the rollout is aimed at public bodies, infrastructure operators and businesses that need local data processing and AI capacity.

For Barcelona organisations, the main benefit is shorter data travel times for services that need quick responses. Telefónica said the service is designed for public administrations, infrastructure operators and companies that need low-latency computing or AI processing closer to where they work.

Edge computing means processing data nearer to the user or device, instead of sending it all to a central server. Telefónica said that can support automation, connected infrastructure and real-time digital tools. More on the company is available on the official Telefónica site and Telefónica Tech.

The two sites are in Barcelona and Terrassa, in Barcelona province. Telefónica said they are part of its wider edge computing network in Spain, built to bring computing capacity closer to where data is generated and used.

The company also said the Catalunya nodes will let administrations, infrastructure operators and companies access new computing and artificial intelligence capabilities. For local public-sector readers, the Ajuntament de Barcelona is one of the bodies that could be relevant to this kind of service.

BARNA is reporting the rollout as stated by Telefónica and has not independently tested service performance. Readers following local business and tech updates can also use our Community tag page for more Barcelona coverage.
