Deal Approved for Former School Site

The municipal council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet approved a management agreement on Tuesday 27 October 2026 during its monthly plenary session, paving the way for the construction of 38 subsidised housing units (HPO) on the site of the former Sant Just school at Carrer Sant Just number 16. The agreement was signed with the Housing Agency of Catalonia (AHC), the regional body responsible for promoting affordable housing policies. The new homes will be offered under a rental scheme, targeting households in need of accessible housing. Currently, the plot is being used provisionally as a public space, according to the council's executive. This interim use follows earlier urban improvements that transformed the area into a pedestrian-friendly zone with green spaces and children’s play areas, officially opened in February 2022.

Part of Broader Housing Strategy

This development marks a key step in the city’s Local Housing Plan (Pla Local d’Habitatge), which aims to deliver 612 affordable homes by 2030 through various projects and partnerships with regional and local administrations. The plan, documented in official municipal files including PU-219 and approved on the council’s website, identifies publicly owned land as a central resource for meeting housing demand. The conversion of the former school site into housing reflects a broader policy of repurposing underused municipal land for social benefit. Residents seeking information on eligibility or future applications for the new homes are directed to the official housing portal of the Ajuntament de Santa Coloma de Gramenet at gramenet.cat/sites/pla-local-dhabitatge.
