Incident caused anxiety and delays

Passengers on an R2 Nord Rodalies train were left in complete darkness for nearly half an hour this morning, 23rd October 2026, after an infrastructure incident cut power between El Clot and Passeig de Gràcia stations. The train, en route to Barcelona Airport, lost both motors and lighting with no immediate explanation from staff. According to reports from Línia Xarxa, passengers could only hear muffled communication between the driver and control, with no public announcements for much of the delay. During the stoppage, many passengers attempted to contact workplaces to report delays, but some were unable to do so due to poor mobile signal underground. Others travelling with luggage to connect with AVE services or flights at Terminal 1 expressed concern about missing their connections.

Service restored after 30 minutes

Eventually, power was restored and the train resumed its journey normally. No injuries were reported, and the incident was resolved by approximately 08:10, according to live updates from Radar Rodalies, which confirmed normal service on the R2 Nord line by that time. However, this is not the first disruption on the line. Data from Radar Rodalies shows 139 incidents on the R2 Nord this year alone, with 12 reported in October. Previous issues have included infrastructure problems between Sants and Plaça Catalunya, and signalling failures affecting multiple Rodalies lines.

Signalling issues affect multiple lines

The incident comes amid broader disruption across the Rodalies network. On 18th October, a signalling failure affected the R1, R2, R4 and R11 lines, with delays of up to 40 minutes reported on the R2 Nord, according to RAC1. ADIF, the national rail infrastructure manager, confirmed technical teams were working to restore full normality on the affected sections. Passengers are advised to check real-time updates via the Radar Rodalies R2 Nord tracker before travelling, especially during peak hours.

"We were just sitting in the dark, no one told us anything. It felt like forever," said one passenger.
