One person was injured, but was not in a serious condition, after an alleged knife incident inside a restaurant on Carrer de Ferran, near its junction with Carrer d'Avinyó, in Barcelona's Ciutat Vella district on Monday 7 September.
Barcelona's Guàrdia Urbana, the city police force, arrested a man on suspicion of assault causing injury and criminal damage. The injured person has not been identified publicly. For residents, workers and visitors in the Gothic Quarter, the incident briefly disrupted businesses on a busy central street, with witnesses reporting that some premises lowered their shutters and customers and staff left the restaurant.
“The injured person is not in a serious condition,” Guàrdia Urbana said, according to reporting by ElCaso.cat.
Police found suspect restrained near Carrer d'Avinyó
The incident happened at about 3pm. ElCaso.cat reported that the man entered the restaurant with a knife and that witnesses restrained him before police arrived.
Guàrdia Urbana officers found the man immobilised at the scene and made the arrest. Workers in the area told ElCaso.cat that he had blood on one hand. An ambulance attended the injured person.
Witnesses told the outlet that people ran from the premises and that several people pursued an individual who fled. These accounts have not been independently confirmed by Guàrdia Urbana, which has not released the arrested man's identity, age or further circumstances of the incident.
