Reviving a Rural Corner of Horta-Guinardó

La Clota, one of the 11 neighbourhoods in the Horta-Guinardó district and among Barcelona’s most distinctive, is undergoing a significant transformation. At just 18 hectares and home to around 1,100 residents, La Clota preserves a semi-rural character with farmhouses, orchards, wells and narrow lanes, standing in contrast to the dense urban fabric surrounding it. Residents and city planners are working to balance preservation with development. The area known as La Clota Conservació, covering around seven hectares, will retain its historic buildings and traditional landscape. In parallel, the La Clota Reordenació zone is seeing the construction of more than 600 new homes, concentrated near Avinguda de l’Estatut.

Future Central Park to Be Shaped by Residents

A major upcoming project is the future Central Park of La Clota, a green space of approximately 4.6 hectares planned between Avingudes del Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer and de l’Estatut, and the Camí de Sant Genís a Horta. This long-standing community demand is now moving forward through a participatory process launched by the city. According to the Barcelona City Council, the goal is to protect the area’s agricultural heritage, including orchards, stone walls, historic paths and wells, while improving connectivity between the neighbourhood’s fragmented sections. The council plans to define a new network of footpaths to link areas currently separated by steep terrain. Residents have made clear their vision: they want a natural, low-impact space without sports facilities or hard surfaces. "We don’t want sports facilities or hard surfaces; we want it to be a very natural space, with vegetation and where horticultural activity can be recovered," said Àngels Corsellas, president of the La Clota Neighbourhood Association.

Public Input to Shape Park and Urban Plan

The participatory process, detailed in a 17 July 2026 city council announcement, will include debate sessions beginning in autumn 2026, with conclusions expected by the first quarter of 2027. These discussions will also revisit the "La Clota conservació" urban plan near Carrer de Lisboa, adapting it to current needs. A public information session on the urban situation in La Clota will take place on Thursday 16 July 2026 at 5:30 PM at Torre Jussana (Avinguda del Cardenal Vidal i Barraquer, 30), with prior registration required via the district website.

New Healthcare Centre Delayed

Another key project, the CAP and CUAP Horta-La Clota healthcare centre, is facing delays. The facility, intended to replace regulated parking opposite Plaça de l’Estatut, will cover 7,000 m² and include services for women, rehabilitation and mental health. The initial budget is set at €18 million. Although the original target was for the centre to become operational in 2026, no construction start date has been confirmed. The city has not provided a revised timeline.
