The L'Hospitalet City Council has doubled its annual budget for public space maintenance, increasing funding from €1.24 million to €2.48 million under a new three-year contract with potential extension. The move aims to accelerate repairs and improvements across the city's urban infrastructure.
The expanded contract covers conservation, improvement and renovation of roads, sidewalks, sewage systems and other public elements, including the construction of culverts and vehicle ramps. Work has already begun in several areas, including asphalt repairs on Castelao Street in the Santa Eulàlia neighbourhood, and on Comerç, Radi and Enric Morera streets. Further actions are planned for Rambla Catalana, Avinguda del Masnou and Avinguda de Tomás Giménez, while the rehabilitation of the Santa Eulàlia hermitage stairs is also scheduled.
Expanded Workforce and Emergency Response
The service will now operate with eight work pairs, up from five, totaling 16 operators, alongside two supervisors and a site manager. A new emergency team will respond to incidents from 8 PM to 8 AM, including weekends and holidays, improving after-hours coverage.
A dedicated asphalt repair team has also been included to speed up resolution of roadway issues. The previous 2023–2026 contract resolved 4,260 incidents, an average of 1,420 per year or 118 monthly, each at an average cost of €990.
Part of Broader Infrastructure Upgrades
This is the fourth public space maintenance contract renewed by the council in 2026. Earlier this year, new contracts for public lighting and road signage were launched. The lighting contract now has four times the previous budget and five times the staff, with work underway across multiple districts to improve safety and accessibility.
