Police in Catalonia are investigating a violent robbery after a jeweller was attacked in broad daylight in Santa Coloma de Gramenet on Friday 16 October. The incident occurred just after 13:15 on Avinguda dels Banús, a main thoroughfare in the Barcelonès municipality, when two suspects on a Kymco motorcycle approached the victim and used force to seize two suitcases containing display stock.
The regional police force, Mossos d'Esquadra, confirmed they responded immediately after the alarm was raised but arrived too late to intercept the suspects, who fled at high speed on the same motorcycle. Initial estimates place the value of the stolen jewellery at approximately €100,000.
Investigation Underway
The case has been taken up by the Mossos d'Esquadra's Criminal Investigation Division (DIC), which is now working to identify the suspects. Officers have interviewed the victim and multiple witnesses, and are reviewing security camera footage from the area to trace the attackers’ movements before and after the incident.
The manner of the attack suggests this was not a random act but a planned operation.
Authorities have not ruled out any lines of inquiry at this early stage. The robbery took place in the centre of one of Catalonia’s most densely populated towns, raising concerns about public safety during daylight hours.
What This Means for Residents
Local residents and business owners are advised to remain vigilant, especially when carrying high-value goods. The Mossos d'Esquadra have not issued specific warnings but encourage anyone with information to come forward via their official reporting channels. The incident underscores ongoing concerns about commercial crime in urban areas across the region.
