Music Documentary Festival Returns to Barcelona
The 24th edition of In-Edit, Barcelona's International Music Documentary Festival, will take place from Thursday 29 October to Saturday 8 November 2026 at Mooby Aribau Cinemes. The event will screen 70 titles, including 50 feature films, six medium-length films, and 14 shorts, with 64 entries making world, European, national, or Catalan premieres. Over 35,000 attendees are expected, alongside nearly 170 guest filmmakers, musicians, and industry professionals. The festival will also host concerts, DJ sets, and the professional development programme In-Edit Lab.
Global Icons and Catalan Voices in Focus
The opening gala on 29 October will feature Broken English, a documentary by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard that explores the life and legacy of British singer Marianne Faithfull, who died in 2025. The film, which had its market screening at TIFF 2026, blends archival material with fictionalised elements: actors including Tilda Swinton and George MacKay portray officials from an imagined 'Ministry of Not Forgetting' tasked with preserving her cultural impact. Nick Cave reflects on her music, while Courtney Love, Suki Waterhouse, and Beth Orton perform her songs. Other international highlights include Bowie: The Final Act, chronicling David Bowie’s last creative period, and Pulp: What Do You Do For an Encore?, narrated by Jarvis Cocker and featuring unseen footage of the band’s reunion. The punk chronicle NOFX: 40 Years of Fuckin’ Up offers a raw look at four decades of the Californian band’s career.
Catalan Directors Premiere New Works
In-Edit 2026 will spotlight local talent with two major Catalan productions. Acclaimed director Carla Simón makes her musical film debut with Flamenco, a short documentary centred on dancer and choreographer Rocío Molina. The film examines flamenco through a contemporary lens, exploring tensions between cultural heritage and artistic freedom, using both archival footage and modern dance. Catalan auteur Albert Serra will present the Catalan premiere of his latest work, Seize moments de ma vie, a documentary portrait of German actress and singer Ingrid Caven. Known for her collaborations with Rainer Werner Fassbinder, Caven performs 16 key moments from her life in a concert at Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord in Paris, accompanied by Molforts, an experimental group from Banyoles. Closing the festival on 8 November will be The Best Summer by American director Tamra Davis. The film captures the 1990s alternative rock scene through intimate backstage footage and unreleased interviews with Beastie Boys, Sonic Youth, Foo Fighters, Pavement, Beck, Rancid, The Amps, and Bikini Kill.
