Key Dates and Opening Ceremony

The Festa Major de Gràcia 2026 will take place from Saturday 15 to Friday 21 August. The festivities begin the evening before, on Friday 14 August, with the traditional opening proclamation at 7:00 p.m. in Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. This year’s pregoner is Vicenç Sanclemente, a journalist and historian, who will deliver the address from the balcony of the district headquarters.

Decorated Streets and Community Involvement

Twenty-three streets and spaces across the Gràcia neighbourhood will be decorated by local residents’ committees for the 2026 edition, maintaining the same number as in recent years. These volunteer-led displays are central to the festival's character, transforming narrow lanes into immersive art installations made from papier-mâché, recycled materials, and handcrafted ornaments. One notable collaboration involves five streets uniting under a shared theme inspired by 'The Lord of the Rings', titled 'El Senyor dels Anells'. This joint effort reflects growing coordination among community groups to enhance creativity and reduce duplication of effort.

Dedicated Activity Zones

Beyond the decorated streets, several public squares will host themed programmes:

  • Plaça Joanic: A performance hub featuring live theatre, dance, and circus acts.
  • Plaça Manuel Torrente: Home to “Tasta Gràcia”, a food-focused event organised by El Cargol Graciós.
  • Plaça del Sol: Rebranded as Plaça Folk, managed by Centre Artesà Tradicionàrius, offering traditional Catalan music.
  • Plaça de les Dones del 36: A feminist-consciousness space addressing gender stereotypes and women's rights.

Cultural Events and Safety Measures

Traditional highlights include the opening parade (pasacalles) on 15 August, human tower building (jornades castelleres) on 18 and 19 August, and the fire-run (correfoc) on 21 August. A new addition this year is the unveiling of the Bou de Gràcia, a ceremonial bull figure crafted by Drac Petit workshop and carried by colla Àguila de Gràcia, presented on 15 August in Plaça de la Vila. To improve resident comfort and manage crowds, organisers have introduced pilot measures. Monday 17 August is designated a "quiet night", with no official programming to allow rest during the week-long event. Additionally, daily "quiet hours" from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. aim to reduce noise, particularly benefiting neurodivergent individuals and those needing lower-stimulation environments. The awards for best-decorated streets, traditionally held at weekend peak times, will now take place on Wednesday 19 August at 6:00 p.m., helping to disperse visitor numbers.
