Club Esportiu Europa has called for a formal agreement with Barcelona City Council if the Vila de Gràcia club is exempted from paying rent to use Can Dragó next season, according to reporting by Tot Barcelona.

For Europa members, the proposed waiver would remove a rental cost linked to playing home matches away from the Nou Sardenya. The agreement sought by the club would set the terms of its use of the municipal sports site in Nou Barris.

City Council pledged support for Europa's financial viability

In an official statement dated 3 July 2026, Barcelona City Council said it would help the club find a solution to guarantee its financial viability while it plays in Primera Federación and stages home fixtures away from the Nou Sardenya.

After a meeting chaired by Mayor Jaume Collboni, Europa withdrew a proposed question to members on whether the club should give up its place in the division for financial reasons. The council said the question had been conditional on finding a way to finance, wholly or partly, the loss associated with not playing at home.

The members' consultation retained the question of where Europa should play its home matches, with Can Dragó and another option under consideration.

Can Dragó was selected as the alternative ground

The City Council and Europa had already agreed to propose Can Dragó's natural-grass sports pitches, at Avinguda Meridiana 473, as an alternative venue if the 2025–26 season could not be completed at the Nou Sardenya.

According to the council's 15 July 2025 announcement, federation rules allowed Europa to use artificial turf at the Nou Sardenya until 15 January 2026. After that date, unless the rules changed, the men's first team would require a natural-grass playing surface to continue competing.
