Housing, Schools and Greening Top ERC’s Budget Demands

On Thursday 08 October 2026, the Republican Left of Catalonia (ERC) in Terrassa outlined its budget priorities for the 2027 municipal accounts, demanding €3 million for social housing, more than three times the €800,000 currently proposed by the city government. Ona Martínez, ERC spokesperson, and fellow councillor Pep Forn stated the request during a press conference, citing the city’s local housing plan, which projects €3 million annual investment from 2028 to 2030 but not for 2027. Martínez described the party’s stance as one of constructive negotiation: “Neither red lines nor blank checks.” ERC has proposed that if the full €3 million is not allocated, the City Council could instead cede a new plot of land for cooperative housing, a move the party says would cost the municipality nothing. Forn highlighted that around 5,000 people or families remain on the waiting list for social housing in Terrassa.

Additional Funding Requests for Schools and Trees

Beyond housing, ERC is calling for €1 million to install air conditioning in municipal schools, double the current allocation, and another €1 million to plant approximately 1,000 trees, addressing a third of the city’s missing tree pits. The group also seeks an extra €500,000 for cultural, sports, social, and educational leisure organisations, increased support for extracurricular activities, and the inclusion of already announced agreements with socio-educational entities in the final budget. ERC further demands the immediate removal of Francoist-era recognitions and that political agreements be formally presented in a resolution alongside the budget. The total additional expenditure requested by the party is estimated at between €4 million and €5 million. Martínez stressed that the figures are a starting point, not fixed demands.

Public Hearing Scheduled for 13 October

The municipal government will present the broad outlines of the 2027 budget proposal at a public hearing on Tuesday, 13 October, at 18:00 in the auditorium of Casal Cívic Vapor Gran. Deputy Mayor for General Services and Open Government, Laura Rivas, will lead the presentation. The event will be open to residents and local organisations, and can be attended in person or streamed live via the Participa a Terrassa platform and the city council’s YouTube channel. Questions can be submitted orally during the session or in writing through the Participa a Terrassa platform by 12 October at 18:00. After the hearing, written questions will still be accepted for one week, with responses provided in writing.
