Catalonia had 3,809,295 Social Security contributors in June 2026, an annual increase of 111,565 people or 3.0%, according to provisional data from Idescat, Catalonia's official statistics institute.

The rise was recorded in every county and Aran. For residents and businesses, the figures provide the latest municipality-level measure of people registered as contributors, with numbers increasing or holding steady in 823 municipalities and falling in 124.

Contributor numbers also rose by 15,795 people, or 0.4%, between May and June, across Catalonia.


Growth recorded in all large municipalities

All Catalan municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants recorded an annual increase. The largest relative rises among them were in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Manresa, both up 4.6%.

  • Vilanova i la Geltrú recorded a 3.9% annual increase.
  • Vic recorded a 3.8% annual increase.
  • Aran recorded the largest county-level annual increase, at 4.8%, followed by Osona at 4.4%.
  • El Baix Penedès rose by 3.9% and L'Urgell by 3.7%.

Month on month, contributor growth was registered in 34 counties and Aran. Aran rose by 9.5% from May, while L'Alta Ribagorça rose by 7.3%.


Foreign-national contributors rose by 10.8%

Women contributors increased by 47,490 over the year, a 2.7% rise, while the number of male contributors increased by 64,075, or 3.3%.

Idescat recorded increases in every age group. The youngest group rose by 6.0% and the oldest by 5.1%.

The number of foreign-national contributors grew by 10.8% in all counties and Aran. Contributors with Spanish nationality increased by 1.3% across Catalonia, with growth in 37 counties and Aran.

Social Security affiliations, a separate count from contributors, stood at 3,991,880 in June. Residents and businesses can consult Idescat's Social Security affiliation statistics for municipal and county-level employment data.
