Barcelona province is among the areas on alert this Sunday, as 30 municipalities across Catalonia face a very high risk of wildfires. The affected area in the province is Anoia, alongside counties in Lleida and Tarragona.

Rural Agents have activated Alfa Plan Level 3 in response to the risk. They announced the warning on X, formerly Twitter, saying that 30 Catalan municipalities are at very high fire risk this Sunday.

The counties named in the alert are Anoia, Alt Urgell, Noguera, Segarra, Segrià, Solsonès, Ribera d'Ebre and Terra Alta. The warning covers communities in three of Catalonia's four provinces.

In Noguera, Rural Agents have already started inspecting agricultural harvesting machinery. The checks focus on fire extinguishing systems, maintenance, and compliance with fire prevention rules.

Alfa Plan is Catalonia's operational system for preventing and fighting forest fires. Level 3 is the highest risk category and brings more surveillance by ground and air units, plus restrictions on activities such as burning agricultural waste or using machinery that can create sparks.

Residents in the affected municipalities are being urged to take extra care and report any signs of fire or suspicious activity to emergency services straight away. For more local public safety coverage, see our Community page and our Sport page for wider Barcelona-area updates.
