Diada Commemorations Begin Thursday Evening
Barcelona is implementing traffic restrictions across several districts on Thursday, 10 September 2026, as part of the preliminary events leading up to Catalonia's National Day, the Diada, on Friday, 11 September. The afternoon begins with a commemoration at 5:45 PM in Sant Andreu at Plaça de les Dones de la Motor Ibèrica, featuring a floral offering at the chapel of the Segadors. From 7:00 PM, multiple events are scheduled across the city. Les Corts will hold its ceremony in Plaça de Comas, Horta-Guinardó will mark the Memorial 1714 in Plaça de Salvador Riera, and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi will host a commemorative event in Plaça del Consell de la Vila.
Torchlight Parades and Security Measures
The evening will see the start of torchlight processions, a traditional element of Diada eve. The first column departs at 7:15 PM from Plaça de Valentí Almirall in Sant Martí. Three additional marches set off at 7:30 PM from Avinguda Diagonal at Carrer del Bruc, the junction of Carrer del Comte Borrell and Tamarit, and Plaça de la Barceloneta. These four columns are scheduled to converge at 9:00 PM at the Fossar de les Moreres, a site of historical significance and a traditional focal point for Diada commemorations.
The Mossos d'Esquadra have deployed a large security presence at the Fossar de les Moreres to prevent clashes between supporters of Aliança Catalana and demonstrators called by left-wing and anti-fascist groups.
According to reports from the Mossos d'Esquadra, heightened tensions are expected due to a counter-demonstration organised by groups including Alerta Solidària, Arran, COS, Endavant, and SEPC, who have called for a gathering at 6:00 PM under the slogan "Unidad Antifascista por una tierra de todos" to oppose Aliança Catalana's presence. Authorities anticipate the need for a major security operation to prevent confrontations, with plans to secure access points to the square, as physically separating the groups within the space is considered operationally unfeasible.
Final March in Sants
The day's events conclude with a torchlight parade in Sants, beginning at 9:30 PM. The march will start and end at Plaça de Bonet i Muixí, with associated local traffic disruptions expected.
Tram Services to Resume Partially Next Week
In transport news, the Trambesòs network will see partial restoration of service next Monday, 14 September. Lines T4, T5, and T6 will resume operations on key stretches following urbanisation and track-doubling works on Gran Via. According to Diari de Catalunya, service on line T4 between Verdaguer and Sant Adrià de Besòs, and on lines T5 and T6 between Glòries and Sant Martí de Provençals, will return to normal from that date as works progress on schedule. While full service resumes on those sections, partial disruptions to T5 and T6 between Glòries and Sant Martí de Provençals will persist beyond next week, with the wider project expected to continue until spring 2027.
