Thirty-four people died in traffic collisions on interurban roads in Barcelona province between 1 January and 31 July 2026, according to provisional figures published by the Servei Català de Trànsit (Catalan Traffic Service). The total is 13% lower than in the same period of 2025.

For commuters, motorcyclists and other road users across the province, the figures mean Barcelona accounted for more than two in five of the 80 people killed on Catalonia’s interurban road network during the first seven months of the year.

Across Catalonia, the Traffic Service recorded 80 deaths in 76 fatal crashes by 31 July, compared with 88 deaths in 82 crashes over the same period in 2025. Serious injuries fell from 493 to 418.

Baix Llobregat records eight fatalities

Baix Llobregat was the Catalan county with the highest number of road deaths, recording eight fatalities on interurban roads in the first seven months of 2026.

The county forms part of the wider Barcelona metropolitan area and includes routes used by residents travelling between Barcelona, inland municipalities and the airport area.

Motorcyclists make up the largest group of victims

Of the 80 people killed across Catalonia, 32 were motorcyclists, nine were pedestrians and five were cyclists. These groups accounted for 46 deaths, or 57.5% of the total.

The Servei Català de Trànsit said motorcyclists are “the group with the highest number of fatalities among all road users”.

Sixty-eight of the people killed were men and 12 were women. In July alone, 13 people died on Catalonia’s interurban roads, down from 18 in July 2025.

AP-7 has the highest death toll

The AP-7 recorded 11 fatalities by 31 July, the highest total of any road in Catalonia. The A-2 recorded four deaths, while the N-340 and C-25 each recorded three.
