Barcelona’s Institut d’Estudis Fotogràfics de Catalunya (IEFC) will move temporarily to the former Escola del Carme in Sants from September 2027, while works are carried out at its current home in the Escola Industrial complex.
The provisional address is Avinguda de Madrid, 214. The building was used as a school until 2023, and Barcelona City Council has said it will keep the site for educational and training use. The move is meant to let the IEFC keep operating without interruption for students and staff.
The institute will stay at Escola Industrial through the 2026 to 2027 academic year, then transfer during summer 2027 so it can start the 2027 to 2028 year in Sants. For background on the institute, see its official website.
The relocation is temporary. The IEFC is expected to return to the Escola Industrial complex once renovation works finish, which officials expect in 2031. The institute will use a building in the complex adapted to its needs, although not necessarily the same space it uses now.
The council’s plan also keeps the former Escola del Carme in public educational use, which preserves its link to learning in Sants. For more local coverage, read our Community stories and Sport updates.
