2,500 Homes Still Without Power
As of Tuesday 6 October 2026, more than 2,500 subscribers in Barcelona remain without electricity following heavy rains over the weekend. The outages have persisted for up to 48 hours in some areas, leaving residents unable to heat food or use elevators, particularly affecting those with reduced mobility. The city’s first deputy mayor, Laia Bonet, confirmed the scale of the disruption during a briefing on Tuesday afternoon, stating that the number of affected users had decreased from over 5,000 in the past 24 hours but remained unacceptably high.
Council Opens Inquiry Into Endesa
The Ajuntament de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) has opened an informational inquiry into electricity provider Endesa to assess its response to the blackouts. The investigation will examine the cause of the outages, the company’s diligence in restoring supply, and whether it is providing timely updates to customers.
If we see a lack of diligence, it could lead to a sanctioning procedure,
, Laia Bonet, First Deputy Mayor Bonet warned that failure to act with sufficient urgency could result in formal sanctions against the utility under municipal oversight powers.
Gràcia Most Affected, Underground Network Complicates Repairs
The district of Gràcia is the most severely affected, with around 500 homes still without power. Two-thirds of all impacted customers are concentrated in four districts: Gràcia, Nou Barris, Horta-Guinardó and Les Corts, areas often prone to electrical disruptions during autumn and winter months. Endesa has acknowledged the complexity of repairs, citing widespread flooding of transformer substations and the fact that 91% of Barcelona’s low-voltage network is underground. The company told betevé that teams are working at full capacity to restore supply and are cooperating with the council by providing requested information. Residents in Horta-Guinardó and Nou Barris have previously raised concerns about recurring outages, calling for backup generators to be installed in vulnerable neighbourhoods.
