Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police, have arrested a woman in connection with the death of a baby found in a plastic bag on a landing in an apartment block on Llevant Street in La Mina, Sant Adrià de Besòs.
The arrest means the investigation remains focused on the building where the baby was found. Residents in the block may continue to see police activity while the Criminal Investigation Division examines the circumstances of the death.
News reports identify the detained woman as the child's 33-year-old mother. Police confirmed an arrest in connection with the case but have not publicly specified the woman's alleged role or any charge.
Emergency response on 2 September
Police received a report at about 1pm on Wednesday 2 September that a baby's body had been found in the Llevant Street building. Several Mossos patrols attended, along with units from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, Catalonia's medical emergency service.
