Update, 19th October 2026: The unified mobilisation for the 11 November strike will begin at 17:30 at Jardinets de Gràcia, at the intersection of Avinguda Diagonal and Passeig de Gràcia, according to NacióDigital. The occupation at the UB will feature artistic performances, including a scheduled appearance by the group Alosa, and organisers have launched a digital application for volunteers to sign up for tasks, the outlet reported.
The Sindicat de Llogateres, Catalonia's tenants' union, and several student organisations will occupy the historic building of the Universitat de Barcelona (UB) from 18:00 on Monday 19th October, turning it into an organising base for the general strike planned for 11th November.
They will call the space Casa de la Huelga, or House of the Strike. For students, workers and Barcelona residents who want to take part in the strike preparations, the organisers say the site will be open to people seeking to collaborate, learn about their rights or find out what is at stake.
The groups say the occupation will bring workers' strike committees together in one place and provide room for assemblies and logistical work intended to make the 11th November stoppage successful.
Occupation is due to begin at 18:00
According to the announcement reported by elDiario.es Catalunya on Monday 19th October, the planned activities at the historic UB building will include:
- meetings of workers' strike committees;
- assemblies and practical organisational tasks;
- talks and other activities; and
- artistic performances alongside the strike preparations.
The groups have presented the occupation as part of their campaign around housing costs and the wider cost of living. No end date for the occupation is given in the announcement.
Organisers invite public participation
The organisers said the space is intended to support continued mobilisation around the right to housing. In their statement, they described the planned base as a place for both practical work and public involvement.
“We are at a turning point in the fight for the right to housing and against the cost of living. A spiral of continuous mobilisation is needed.”
They added that participation in the Casa de la Huelga will be open to anyone who wants to help, receive information about their rights or understand the issues behind the strike.
People wishing to attend or join the organisational work can go to the historic UB building from 18:00 on Monday 19th October, when the occupation is due to start. The announcement does not set out a registration process or a timetable for the talks and performances.
