Three Mossos d'Esquadra officers were injured during a high-speed chase involving a stolen Jaguar with falsified licence plates, following an attempted traffic stop in Santa Coloma de Gramenet on Tuesday afternoon, 1 September.
The incident began at approximately 7:00 PM when a patrol identified a Jaguar carrying four occupants. After confirming the vehicle was reported stolen and displaying false registration plates from a Nissan Juke, officers moved to intercept it.
The suspects fled immediately, triggering a dangerous pursuit across the metropolitan area.
As the fugitives sped through Santa Coloma’s urban streets, they struck a taxi before entering the B-20 (Ronda de Dalt) and continuing onto the C-33 motorway towards Girona. During the escape, the Jaguar collided with multiple cars and a Mossos patrol vehicle.
The chase ended near Montornès del Vallès, where the suspects crashed into a highway crash barrier. One suspect was arrested at the scene. Two others were apprehended shortly afterwards by Catalan police.
Active manhunt for fourth suspect
A search remains ongoing for the fourth occupant, who fled on foot and is still at large. The detained individuals, aged 34, 35, and 36, are Spanish and Maghrebi nationals. They face charges of vehicle theft or unauthorised use, forgery of official documents, and serious resistance and disobedience to law enforcement.
Gang links under investigation
According to Mossos d'Esquadra investigators, the suspects may be linked to a criminal network specialising in ram-raid robberies using 4x4 vehicles. The gang has been active across the Barcelona metropolitan region this summer, tied to recent break-ins at jewellery stores and electronics shops.
The three injured officers were taken to a medical centre for treatment. Their injuries are not considered serious.
Authorities are now working to determine whether the group used local warehouses or safe houses to store goods stolen in prior heists.
