Preventive Evacuation Underway
Emergency services have evacuated six families from the Font del Gos neighbourhood in Horta-Guinardó due to worsening storm conditions. The operation, carried out by Barcelona Firefighters and the Guardia Urbana, began after rising water levels in the local riera prompted authorities to initiate a preventive evacuation of homes deemed most at risk. Initially, residents were confined to their homes under emergency supervision. As conditions evolved, officials moved to evacuate the most exposed households to ensure public safety, according to a statement from Barcelona City Council.
Alternative Housing and Ongoing Support
Municipal services are coordinating alternative housing for affected residents, prioritising accommodations close to their usual environment. The city confirmed that support includes access to temporary shelter, meals, hygiene facilities, and clothing. The Dos de Maig social emergency facility reopened at 16:00 today and will remain open for two nights to assist people experiencing homelessness who have been impacted by the storm. A review will take place on Tuesday afternoon to determine whether continued operation is necessary.
School Disruptions and Emergency Response
Rain-related damage has forced the suspension of activities at two schools. Concha Espina School closed due to power loss, while Poeta Foix School was flooded. The Consorci d'Educació has advised all schools across Barcelona that have sustained storm-related damage or disruptions to cancel extracurricular activities scheduled for this afternoon. From Saturday afternoon until 14:00 on Monday, Barcelona Firefighters responded to nearly 1,900 incidents, with around 300 requiring full emergency deployment. These included flooding, fallen trees (97 reported), landslides, and damage to municipal infrastructure. During the same period, the Guardia Urbana recorded over 100 weather-related incidents, primarily involving water accumulation on roads, mobility issues, and preventive interventions at public facilities.
City Rebuilding Normality
Despite improvements in weather conditions, the city maintains the emergency phase of the Municipal Action Plan activated due to drainage risks. This ensures continued coordination between emergency and municipal services. Public transport has gradually resumed normal operations, and city parks remain closed in the morning for safety assessments. The Civil Protection service continues to urge caution, particularly in mountainous neighbourhoods where 50 landslide-related incidents are still under monitoring. According to the Barcelona Urgent Care and Social Emergencies Centre, 189 people received assistance by 23:00 on Sunday, with 82 accommodated at municipal shelters including Dos de Maig and the CAE.
The city is advancing towards the recovery of normality, but we maintain maximum coordination to ensure citizen safety,
, said a spokesperson for Barcelona City Council, reiterating ongoing vigilance.
