18 Road Sections Impacted by Landslides and Flooding

Following a severe storm that struck the province of Barcelona on Saturday 4 October 2026, the Diputació de Barcelona is currently repairing damage across 18 sections of provincial roads. Torrential rains, which delivered over 300 litres per square metre in parts of the metropolitan area, triggered landslides, fallen trees, and blocked drainage systems.

The worst-affected regions include Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Vallès Oriental, Maresme, and Alt Penedès, where maintenance teams are working intensively to clear obstructions and restore safe passage.

Park and Public Service Disruptions

At the Parc de la Serralada Litoral, managed by the Diputació, landslides have damaged parking areas. Repair efforts are underway to secure access and prevent further erosion.

The Local Teleassistance Service, a support system for vulnerable residents provided by the Diputació, received more than 500 emergency calls over the weekend due to flooding and power outages. The service remains operational, with staff prioritising urgent cases via its official network.

Municipal libraries across several towns have also reported structural and material damage from water intrusion.

Rainfall Totals and Meteorological Context

  • Up to 213 litres per square metre recorded in 24 hours at Can Bruixa (Meteocat)
  • River Besòs flow increased 50-fold to 937 m³/s, a once-in-a-century level
  • No 'gota fría' or Atlantic low-pressure system involved; event formed under high pressure
  • Mediterranean sea surface temperature near Barcelona reached 25.9 °C in late September

The storm prompted a maximum-level weather alert (level 6/6) from Meteocat and an ES-Alert sent by the Generalitat to mobile phones across coastal and pre-coastal regions from 20:00 on Saturday until 14:00 on Sunday.
