Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalonia's regional police force, have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of a 15-year-old in Pegaso Park, Barcelona, on the night of 2 July. Interior Minister Núria Parlon told the Parliament that investigators believe the man was the alleged shooter.

The arrest is the second in the case. A first suspect was arrested on 4 July and is being held in provisional detention without bail. The investigation remains open and is covered by judicial secrecy, limiting the information publicly available to residents in La Sagrera and Sant Andreu.

Parlon said the 21-year-old is believed to be the alleged shooter who fired the weapon.

Teenager found seriously injured near Carrer de Portugal

Police were alerted around midnight after witnesses reported hearing gunshots near Carrer de Portugal, in Sant Andreu. Patrols found the teenager with gunshot injuries and in a critical condition near Pegaso Park, in the La Sagrera area.

Seven units from the Sistema d'Emergències Mèdiques, Catalonia's emergency medical service, attended but were unable to save him, according to ACN reporting.

Josep Lluís Trapero, director general of the police, and superintendent Toni Rodríguez said on 3 July that initial indications pointed to a direct action against the victim, rather than a random incident.

Case remains under judicial secrecy

The Mossos' Criminal Investigation Division is handling the inquiry. Police have not publicly set out further details of the evidence against either suspect because the proceedings are under secrecy.
