Festival runs 10 days in early October
The Festa Major de Sarrià 2026 will take place from 3 to 12 October in the Sarrià–Sant Gervasi district of Barcelona. The 10-day celebration transforms the leafy residential neighbourhood into a vibrant hub of Catalan traditions, community art, and street festivities. Residents and visitors can attend over a week of free public events, centred around Plaça de Sarrià and spreading through local streets and squares. The festival honours Sant Vicenç, the patron saint of Sarrià, and reflects the area’s historic identity as an independent municipality until 1921.
Traditional Catalan culture on display
The programme features classic elements of Catalan popular culture. Attendees can expect gigants (giant figures), capgrossos, and bestiari parades, along with live cobla music for sardana dancing. The Castellers de Sarrià will build human towers, while Diables de Sarrià perform fiery correfocs suitable for children and adults. Other activities include stick dances (ball de bastons), religious processions, street theatre, circus performances, DJ sets, and live concerts ranging from classical to contemporary genres.
To reclaim balconies as a public space, community art and the neighborhood network.
A key pre-festival initiative, Fes-te els balcons, invites local residents to lend their balconies for small artistic performances. Organised by Casa Orlandai Cultural Association, the project seeks artists to present five- to ten-minute acts such as acoustic music, poetry readings, dance, or micro-theatre. Interested participants can contact [email protected]. Last year’s edition featured 12 balcony shows, including Ràdio Balcons by Les Grandes and dance performance Spielraum. This year’s route and schedule will be announced closer to the festival.
Practical information for attendees
Most events are free and open to all. The festival concludes with a fireworks display known as a piromusical. Sarrià is accessible via FGC trains (lines S1, S2, S5, S55) to Sarrià station, or by bus lines 66, 67, 68, and V3. Parking is limited, so public transport is recommended.
