Restoration work has begun at the Capella dels Segadors, the historic chapel attached to Sant Andreu de Palomar parish in Barcelona’s Sant Andreu district. The project is intended to halt deterioration of the protected building and preserve one of the few remaining structures from the former parish complex.
For residents in the area between carrer dels Segadors and plaça de les Dones de Motor Ibérica, the works concern the chapel’s roof, façade walls and interior brick vaults. No public access arrangements or completion date have been announced in the material provided.
District councillor Marta Villanueva said the start of the project responds to a “long-standing neighbourhood demand” and will help recover part of Sant Andreu’s cultural heritage.
Roof and walls form the first stage of conservation
El Periódico reported on 20 March 2026 that the intervention will repair the roof and consolidate the façade walls. The plans also include restoring the chapel’s flat-brick vaults while retaining the geometry and starting points of the original vaults.
The chapel was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 2022. It stands beside the current parish church and, together with the rectory, is the only surviving structure from the original parish, according to the Archdiocese of Barcelona.
€300,000 project backed by three institutions
The planned investment is €300,000, jointly financed by Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya, Catalonia’s government, and the Archdiocese of Barcelona. The council’s contribution is €130,000 from tourism-tax revenue, El Periódico reported.
