A driver faces criminal charges for reckless driving after nearly hitting an off-duty Mossos d'Esquadra officer in Barcelona's port area on Tuesday, 23 June. The incident occurred at approximately 07:30 on Passeig de Joan de Borbó, a major thoroughfare.

The car, carrying three passengers besides the driver, travelled erratically against the traffic flow. It narrowly missed the officer, who was on his motorbike near the Hotel W, causing him to fall.

Police sources told El Caso.com that the driver did not explicitly intend to harm the officer. The officer quickly identified himself as police and stopped the vehicle, then alerted authorities.

Mossos d'Esquadra patrols and officers from the Port Police of Barcelona responded to the scene. The Port Police oversee control and surveillance duties in the city's extensive port area.

Authorities will criminally charge the driver for reckless driving. They did not arrest him. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to initial reports.

The circumstances leading to the car driving against traffic on Passeig de Joan de Borbó remain unknown. Fortunately, the incident resolved without any injuries to anyone involved.

Weapons Found in Nou Barris Stop

This incident was not the only traffic-related event in Barcelona recently. On Monday evening, around 21:00, the Guàrdia Urbana stopped a vehicle in the Nou Barris district.

Officers conducted a control at a city entrance point. They found the car's ITV (vehicle inspection) had expired. Nou Barris is home to over 170,000 residents in northern Barcelona.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed two revolvers. One was a simulated weapon, and the other was a real firearm with ammunition.

The Guàrdia Urbana arrested the car's occupants. These were a Dominican man and an Argentinian man. They transferred the suspects to the Mossos d'Esquadra for further processing.

The Mossos d'Esquadra have started an investigation. This aims to clarify the facts surrounding the weapons discovery and potential charges.

These separate incidents highlight ongoing efforts by Barcelona's police forces to maintain public safety and enforce traffic regulations. The investigations into both cases continue.
