The People's Party (PP) has demanded an urgent plan to halve waiting times on Barcelona's metro during morning and evening rush hours, as Elcatalan reported on Monday 2nd November 2026. The call was made during the Barcelona Metropolitan Council meeting, where PP representative Xavi García Albiol urged the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB) to take direct action alongside public transport operators TMB and ATM.
Current wait times on the network vary significantly, with some peripheral lines seeing gaps of up to eight minutes, according to recent specialist reports cited by the party. The PP argues that such disparities lead to recurring overcrowding, undermining daily commutes for thousands of workers and students.
The proposal calls for a structural expansion of service, prioritising both the introduction of additional trains and better use of existing technical resources. Albiol stressed that generic investment announcements are insufficient without immediate improvements.
Passengers on lines with longer intervals may continue to face crowded platforms and delays until the proposed measures are implemented. The AMB, TMB, and ATM have not yet issued a public response to the demand.
