Community Festival Celebrates Agricultural Roots
On Sunday 20 September 2026, the Plus Ultra neighbourhood in Barcelona’s Marina de Port district will host its annual community festival, centring on a traditional grape stomping event that recalls the area’s history as a vineyard landscape. Organised by the Associació de Veïns de Plus Ultra, the Festa Major de Plus Ultra is one of the city’s most locally rooted celebrations. This year’s programme runs from 09:00 to 22:30 in the streets of Mecànic Pablo Rada, Aviador Ruiz de Alda, and Aviador Durán. The festival is free to attend and open to all ages, with activities designed to bring together residents and visitors in a celebration of local heritage.
Full Day of Cultural Events
The day begins at 09:00 with a batucada drumming performance by the Diables de Port, followed by a crafts fair at 10:00 hosted by Uniód’Entitats de la Marina. At 11:00, a procession featuring the La Joia de Montjuïc choir winds through the streets. The highlight comes at 12:00 with the blessing of the grape harvest, followed by the grape stomping and must tasting.
The grape stomping is both a tribute to our past and a joyful community ritual,
said a festival organiser. Later events include Catalan folk dancing at 12:15, a communal lunch at 14:30 (attendees bring their own food), and performances by dance groups Estrellas Altas and Show Dance at 17:00 and 18:00. The evening continues with havaneres songs and burnt rum at 19:00, a performance by Calle Jaleo at 20:00, and a correfoc fire run by Diables de Port at 21:30, marking the festival’s close at 22:30.
