New Sports Hub Fully Operational
The new Municipal Sports Center (CEM) La Sagrera, located at Carrer de Bonaventura Gispert 37-47 in the Sant Andreu district, is now fully operational as of October 1, 2026. The facility, which opened its outdoor pools on August 15, has already attracted more than 7,000 members. This expansion complements the existing CEM Sant Andreu on Carrer de Santa Coloma, 25, forming a unified complex now known as CEM Sant Andreu-La Sagrera. The two sites are a two-minute walk apart and together now serve 8,000 members.
Facilities and Capacity
The 3,927 m² CEM La Sagrera includes four group fitness rooms totalling 430 m², a 485.38 m² weight room, two padel courts, a 1,000 m² solarium, and two outdoor pools: a main 25 x 16.5 m pool and a 16.5 x 6 m training pool. The centre offers around 30 group fitness classes from Monday to Friday, amounting to 150 hours of weekly activities for cardiovascular health, toning, dance and more. Two multipurpose spaces will be adapted into a children’s playroom and a youth fitness room.
Sustainable Design and Investment
The construction, costing approximately €14 million, followed strict sustainability criteria, incorporating photovoltaic systems, residual heat recovery, water self-sufficiency measures, and green façades with native species across nearly 500 m² of landscaped area. The building comprises a basement and two upper floors, designed to meet environmental excellence standards aligned with LEED certification. A second phase of the project will install a retractable roof to enable year-round use of the outdoor pools.
Part of Broader Municipal Strategy
The opening of CEM La Sagrera is part of a wider city effort to modernise and expand Barcelona’s sports infrastructure. Municipal investment in this sector has doubled during the current term, rising from €50 million to €100 million. Other new developments include CEM Espronceda, opened in 2026, and future projects such as CEM La Marina (planned for 2027) and new pavilions in Poble-sec, La Model, Glòries and L’Ona.
The new facilities strengthen Barcelona's network of municipal sports centres, enhancing access and quality for local residents.
The CEM Sant Andreu-La Sagrera complex is now fully integrated into the city’s network of 41 Municipal Sports Centers (CEM) and 83 Specialised Facilities (IEM), offering diverse opportunities for physical activity and sport.
