100 Rural Agent Posts Opened

The Generalitat de Catalunya has launched a recruitment drive for 100 new rural agents, marking the 40th anniversary of the service. Applications will close on Friday 30 October 2026, giving candidates just over five days to apply. The rural agents, part of the regional government's environmental protection force, are responsible for monitoring natural spaces, preventing and investigating forest fires, enforcing environmental laws, and overseeing hunting and fishing activities.

Gender Quota and Key Requirements

Forty per cent of the available positions, 40 in total, are reserved for women, in an effort to increase female representation within the corps. The recruitment campaign, branded under the slogan "Molt més que una feina" (Much more than a job), aims to attract diverse candidates to a role central to safeguarding Catalonia’s natural heritage. To qualify, applicants must meet several minimum criteria:

  • Be aged 18 or over
  • Hold a baccalaureate, technical qualification, or equivalent
  • Have a C1 level certification in Catalan
  • Possess a class B driving licence

Candidates must also pass a series of competitive assessments, including knowledge tests, physical fitness evaluations, psychoprofessional suitability checks, and a medical examination.

The role demands both physical resilience and deep commitment to environmental stewardship, with agents operating across Catalonia’s forests, parks, and protected areas.

Training and Deployment Process

Successful applicants will complete a 600-hour selective course at the Institut de Seguretat Pública de Catalunya, followed by up to 1,000 hours of practical field service. The recruitment comes amid growing environmental challenges, including prolonged droughts, extreme temperatures, and heightened wildfire risk, which have increased the operational demands on natural resource protection services. Applicants can submit their applications via the Generalitat’s dedicated portal: Inscripcions per ser agent rural. The deadline is 30 October 2026, and late submissions will not be accepted.
