Modern Facility to Serve 45,000 Residents
The new CAP Can Ribes - Ernest Lluch in Gavà will begin operations on Monday, marking a major upgrade in local healthcare provision. The 4,544-square-metre facility, built on land provided by Gavà City Council, has been developed at a cost of €15,122,000 and will serve an estimated 45,000 residents. Operated by the Catalan Health Institute (ICS), the centre will consolidate and expand existing services, integrating primary care, paediatrics, sexual and reproductive health, and adult mental health services under one roof.
Expanded Services and Extended Hours
From 27 October, the centre will offer primary care services Monday to Friday, 8 am to 8 pm. These include family medicine, nursing, social work, dentistry, dietetics and nutrition, dental hygiene, community physiotherapy, and emotional well-being support. A key advancement is the introduction of outpatient rehabilitation and radiology services, previously unavailable locally. The paediatric team will also be centralised, creating a larger, more specialised unit. The Adult Mental Health Centre (CSMA), managed by Parc Sanitari Sant Joan de Déu, and the Sexual and Reproductive Health Care (ASSIR) service will relocate to the new facility.
The launch of the new CAP involves a territorial reorganization of primary care in the municipality.
Affected patients will receive direct communication about changes to their care arrangements. The Catalan Department of Health has confirmed that continuity of care will be maintained throughout the transition, with enhanced patient support in place before and after the opening.
Design and Sustainability
Designed by architects Jordi Sutrias Figueras and Héctor Jala Irigoyen, the building prioritises energy efficiency and natural light. Construction was carried out by COPISA Constructora Pirenaica S.A.U., with installations completed by UTE ACISA-VOLTES under the execution direction of Construcción y Control Facultativos Asociados S.L.P.
