Healthcare and education concerns mount
Residents of the Fontsanta-Fatjó neighbourhood in Cornellà are raising urgent concerns over limited access to primary healthcare and the future of local school provision at Escola Suris. On Wednesday 14 October 2026, Iván Cánovas, spokesperson for VOX in Cornellà City Council, called for immediate action, questioning: "What's going on, don't the residents of Fontsanta-Fatjó pay taxes?" Cánovas highlighted what he described as unequal access to public services, stating: "The residents of Fontsanta-Fatjó do not enjoy the same services as other citizens of Cornellà but pay the same as the rest."
Demand for year-round clinic hours
VOX is demanding that the local health centre in Fontsanta-Fatjó open every day of the year, with both morning and afternoon services. Currently, the clinic operates only on weekday mornings and has reduced availability during summer months, forcing residents to travel to other parts of Cornellà for care. The party wants in-person medical services guaranteed from Monday to Sunday, including public holidays, to ensure residents do not have to leave the neighbourhood for essential healthcare. Cánovas argued that families who work and contribute through taxes deserve public services that reflect their efforts.
School lines at Escola Suris under scrutiny
Alongside healthcare, VOX has drawn attention to ongoing uncertainty over educational provision at Escola Suris, the area's main public school. Families fear potential reductions in school lines, which could affect enrolment and continuity for children in the district. Cánovas called for binding guarantees that all necessary school lines will remain active, in line with local population needs. "Families cannot live year after year with the uncertainty of not knowing if their children will have the educational lines the neighborhood needs," he said. The future of school offerings falls under the authority of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Department of Education, which sets criteria for school deployment based on demographic and pedagogical planning under its established guidelines.
Municipal role and next steps
While healthcare and education are primarily managed by the regional government, the Cornellà City Council has a role in advocating for residents. VOX plans to present formal initiatives at the next municipal plenary session, aiming to pressure the Generalitat to address both the clinic’s operating hours and the stability of Escola Suris. The party insists that equitable access to public services is a matter of fairness for taxpayers in district VII of Cornellà. The next steps will depend on whether the council supports these demands and formally forwards them to the competent regional authorities.
