New Facility Marks Step in Zona Franca Reindustrialisation

Europastry, a leading Catalan frozen bakery and dough producer, will open a new cold storage logistics centre in 2027 on the former Nissan site in Barcelona’s Zona Franca, the company confirmed on Tuesday 27th October 2026. The facility, covering 8,937 square metres of built space, forms part of the Barcelona City Hub project led by Australian developer Goodman. It marks the first newly constructed building on the site since Nissan’s departure. The centre will be located near the Port of Barcelona and directly opposite Mercabarna, enhancing access to key transport links for domestic and international distribution.

The facilities will allow us to strengthen the connection between our production plants in Catalonia and international markets. Its strategic location and the custom design of the warehouse will make our logistics operations more efficient and will support Europastry's international growth.

Custom-Designed Cold Storage with Sustainable Features

The warehouse will store frozen products at temperatures as low as minus 22 degrees Celsius, using a box-in-box design for thermal efficiency. It will also include temperature-controlled handling zones and a 500m² office area. A photovoltaic installation of approximately 1,000 kWp will be installed on the roof, with all generated energy consumed directly by Europastry to reduce its carbon footprint. Goodman, which was awarded the site in early 2023, is investing €123 million to redevelop 144,000m² into a multisectoral industrial hub. The arrival of Europastry completes the final phase of this redevelopment. The project follows the relocation of car manufacturers Chery and EV Motors to repurposed Nissan facilities on the same site.

What This Means for Barcelona

The new centre reinforces the Zona Franca’s transformation into a modern logistics and manufacturing zone. It supports local employment and industrial activity in one of the city’s key economic areas. Construction is already underway, with operations scheduled to begin in 2027.
