Caught Using Phone, Found with Drugs
On the night of Saturday, 27 September 2026, Barcelona’s Urban Guard arrested a man during a routine traffic stop for using his mobile phone while riding a motorcycle. Officers from the Sant Andreu Territorial District initiated procedures to issue a fine for the infraction, which carries a penalty of a €200 fine and the loss of three to six points on the driver’s licence. During the stop, the officers conducted a search and discovered multiple drugs in the man’s possession, prepared in doses and ready for sale. The substances included marijuana, cocaine, hashish, ketamine, and "tusi", a synthetic drug also known as pink cocaine.
The individual was caught during the Festes de la Mercè, a period of heightened police activity across the city.
Part of Wider La Mercè Security Operation
According to the Barcelona City Council’s Safety, Prevention and Coexistence department, a coordinated security operation involving the Urban Guard, Mossos d’Esquadra, Port Police, and Civil Protection services was in place throughout the Festes de la Mercè 2026 to ensure public safety and coexistence (ajuntament.barcelona.cat). The operation included increased preventive checks in busy areas, use of handheld metal detectors, and targeted actions against unauthorised vending, public alcohol consumption, and drug-related activity. This arrest follows another incident earlier in the week, when two people were detained in Collserola natural park on 24 September for alleged drug trafficking involving tusi and distribution equipment (barna.news). The suspect from the motorcycle arrest was transferred to a police station pending appearance before the duty judge. The council has not released details on the suspect’s age, nationality, criminal history, or the exact quantity of drugs seized.
