An 83-year-old driver lost control of a white Mercedes and struck four parked motorcycles after the car reversed onto a pavement in Pedralbes on Friday evening, according to initial checks by the Guàrdia Urbana de Barcelona, the city police.
The incident happened shortly after 19:00 at the junction of carrer de Jordi Girona and avinguda de l’Exèrcit, opposite several faculties of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC). Students, staff and pedestrians using the area were not reported injured, and the driver was also unharmed.
Car reversed onto pedestrian area
Witnesses told officers that the driver had difficulty controlling the automatic vehicle after his foot became stuck on a pedal. The Mercedes then moved backwards for several moments before reaching the pedestrian area and hitting the motorcycles.

Patrols from the Guàrdia Urbana’s Les Corts territorial unit attended the scene, checked on the driver and began inquiries into how the vehicle began reversing.
The Sistema d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM), Catalonia’s emergency medical service, was not called because nobody required medical treatment. Police said the driver tested negative for alcohol and was coherent and fit to drive during their initial assessment.
The Guàrdia Urbana has opened proceedings to establish the precise circumstances of the collision.
