Bellvitge’s Main Festival in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat will hold a Functional Diversity Day on Tuesday 8 September, with adapted games and a DJ session from 5.30pm to 9pm. The Festival Commission says the addition is intended to make the neighbourhood celebrations more accessible for people with functional diversity and their families.
The activity is being organised with the Bellvitge Esplai Club and ONCE, Spain’s national organisation for blind people. Rosa Corral, president of the Festival Commission, said the programme will combine adapted games with music.
“There will be adapted games and music by a DJ,” Corral said.
Three nights of music and anniversary events
The commission has expanded the music programme aimed at younger people to three nights. It includes the L’Hokura Music Festival, a punk rock night on Thursday 10 September, and the 36th Youth Night on Saturday.
- The 40th anniversary of Bellvitge’s giants, Laia and Celeri, will be marked on Sunday 6 September.
- A Holi Party is scheduled for Friday 11 September at Plaça del Mercat 2.
- Plaça de la Cultura will host circus shows during the weekend.
- The XXVI Amateur Theatre Exhibition will run from 5 to 13 September.
Pau Pérez named in solidarity race
The fourth Solidarity Race will take place at Parc Nou de Bellvitge on Sunday 13 September and will carry the name of Pau Pérez. Pérez was a Bellvitge resident closely involved in neighbourhood sport and in the Bernat Metge and Joan XXIII centres.
Runners will complete a five-kilometre course in Parc Nou, while a wheelchair-accessible walk will also be available. Funds raised will support amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research through the neurological diseases and neurogenetics research group at IDIBELL, the Bellvitge Biomedical Research Institute, and the Miquel Valls Foundation.
IDIBELL has previously described its neurological diseases and neurogenetics team as carrying out research projects to address ALS. Registration for the Bellvitge race remains open until 12 September through the race website and at the Festival Commission stand.
