Barcelona travellers in Sant Martí should expect tram disruption from 3 July to 13 September 2026, as Gran Via works continue in the city.
The affected sections will not run as normal, so journeys between Verdaguer, El Maresme, Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Sant Martí de Provençals will need extra time and a different route.
According to TMB and the Ajuntament de Barcelona, the disruption is needed to continue the Gran Via urbanisation works in Sant Martí, including the doubling of the tram tracks between Badajoz and Bilbao streets. The T4 will stop running between Verdaguer and El Maresme, while T5 and T6 will not run between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Sant Martí de Provençals.
To keep travel moving, the authorities say two replacement bus services will mirror the affected tram routes, one for T4 between Verdaguer and El Maresme, and another for T5 and T6 between Marina and Besòs. Metro Line 4 is the main alternative between Besòs and Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica, although Verdaguer station on L4 will close from 6 July to 30 August for accessibility works.
Other options during the works include Metro lines L1 and L2, TMB bus lines H12 and 7, and Rodalies R1 between Sant Adrià and El Clot. Some bus, night bus, road and cycle routes will also change, including Diagonal, TMB lines H12, V25, N2 and N7, and the bike lane on Diagonal between Ciutat de Granada and Glòries.
The project began in October 2025 and is part of the wider plan to connect Barcelona’s two tram networks via Diagonal. The council says the scheme is meant to improve capacity and fit the area better around Glòries. From 14 September, T4 is due to resume full service between Verdaguer and Estació de Sant Adrià, while T5 and T6 will partially return between Ciutadella | Vila Olímpica and Glòries.
Works on Gran Via will continue after that, with a further partial disruption expected on T5 and T6 between Glòries and Sant Martí de Provençals. For updates, check the Community tag and the official TMB and Ajuntament channels before travelling.
