Barcelona City Council has allocated €314,000 for a tender to buy 24 motorcycles for the Guardia Urbana, Barcelona's municipal police force. The procurement, which remains under evaluation, includes four marked electric trail motorcycles, 18 unmarked electric maxi-scooters and two unmarked high-capacity combustion maxi-scooters.
The vehicles will add to the police force's existing fleet. For residents and road users, the purchase concerns vehicles intended for Guardia Urbana operations across the city, while the tender requires most of the new motorcycles to be electric.
The successful supplier must equip and adapt the motorcycles for police use, arrange their registration and documentation, and complete the legal formalities required for them to operate under current rules. Municipal technical staff will validate a pilot test of each motorcycle type.
Technical requirements for the 24 motorcycles
- Four electric trail motorcycles: police-marked vehicles with at least 30 kW of power, maximum consumption of 12 kWh per 100 km and an urban range of at least 140 km.
- 18 electric maxi-scooters: unmarked vehicles with 11 kW of power, maximum consumption of 10 kWh per 100 km and a range of 200 km.
- Two combustion maxi-scooters: unmarked models with liquid-cooled, four-stroke twin-cylinder engines, a maximum output of 56 hp and consumption of no more than 4.2 litres per 100 km.
Every motorcycle must have an additional battery capable of powering the equipment installed during its conversion for police use.
Warranty and tender status
The motorcycles must be covered by a warranty of between three and five years from delivery and acceptance. The supplier must also guarantee replacement parts for at least 10 years.
Residents and businesses can follow the procedure, including any published notices and its eventual award, through Barcelona City Council's electronic procurement portal.
